Life Legacy


WATERTOWN – Helen L. (Lewis) McIntyre, of Watertown died peacefully May 11th at Cook-Willow Nursing Home in Plymouth, at the age of 102. She was the beloved wife of the late Irving E. McIntyre.
Helen was born in Watertown on the family dairy farm, daughter of the late Katie M. (Scott) Lewis and George F. Lewis, former Watertown Selectman. A lifelong resident of Watertown, she was a graduate of Watertown High School and secretarial school. She was a longtime employee of Scovill Manufacturing Co. where she was secretary to the president, Arthur Hickcox, until her retirement in 1970. She had the honor of being the oldest member of First Congregational Church in Watertown.
Helen was talented gardener and delighted in working at her home which borders Steele Brook.
She is survived by two nieces Patricia Lewis of Watertown and Ellen L. Collins of Falmouth, Mass.; several grand- and great grandnieces and nephews, including Alison Varian of Guilford, who with her father, Norman Lemay, provided many years of loving care for Helen.
Helen was predeceased by her four brothers, Jeffrey S. Lewis, Leroy P. Lewis, Frederic H. Lewis and Truman B. Lewis.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Helen’s aide, Sarah Joseph, for her care and compassion over the past year.
Family and friends may gather at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Saturday, May 19th, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at which time there will be a procession to Evergreen Cemetery, North Street, for committal services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics or the Salvation Army.
